About Writing Craft Book Club
It started as a lark. Graham Strong, Mary Gastmeier, and Marion Agnew said, “Imagine a book club, just for writers, to discuss books on the craft of writing, and maybe do one of the exercises together.”
And then we said, “Hey, that’s a great idea!”
That was in the spring of 2025. After some planning and (ahem) plotting, we hosted our first meeting on July 13, 2025 at Entershine Bookshop with 10 members. We’re hoping to reach all writers in Thunder Bay and area who want to learn their craft from some of the many great books on writing out there.
Our goal is to choose a book to read every quarter and discuss:
- Why we liked or disliked it
- How it helped us
- Who this book might be best for
- Key takeaways
If the book has exercises, we may try one or two of them in the group setting.
We’re so lucky that Entershine Bookshop has partnered with us to order the books and provide a space for us to meet. It is the perfect, inspiring room – the most important room in Thunder Bay, as Michael Sobota has said many times.
